CAERNARFON Town continued their preparations ahead of their return to the JD Welsh Premier League with an eye-catching 2-1 victory at Colwyn Bay.

The Seagulls made a positive start to proceedings on four minutes when Lass Mendes’ long-range effort forced Alex Ramsay into a smart save, while at the other end Jamie Breese was looking lively and his fierce drive after six was diverted by Matt Cooper.

Danny Brookwell was the next to go close for the Cofis when his shot was saved again by Cooper, and the Bay stopper had to be at his best to deny Sion Bradley on 12 when the recent signing from Porthmadog was put through on goal.

Sean Eardley’s men took the lead on 32 minutes courtesy of a sensational volley from Brookwell, who latched on to a Cooper punch to emphatically give the Canaries a deserved advantage.

Both sides made multiple changes at the break to give each squad some much-needed minutes ahead of the new season, and the home side almost levelled matters shortly after the restart when a trialist was unable to find a way past the resolute Ramsay on 50 minutes.

The same trialist showed some neat footwork before sending a shot over after 59 minutes, and he missed yet another chance soon after when he was played in by Craig Pritchard.

Alan Morgan’s men were presented a golden chance to equalise after 65 minutes when they were awarded a penalty, but a trialist was unable to take advantage of the opportunity and saw his effort saved by Ramsay to keep the Cofis ahead.

Forward Jamie McDaid had a great chance to seal the victory for Town on 72 minutes, but his free header dropped the wrong side of the post and they were made to pay for this miss on 76 when a trialist bundled the ball in from close range for the hosts.

Cofis talisman Darren Thomas was on hand to put them back in the ascendancy on 81 minutes when he played a neat one-two with McDaid to round off the scoring.
