TIME is running out for Anglesey sides to put themselves forward as potential host venues for the 2019 Island Games.

The tournament’s organising committee are looking to appoint up to 12 clubs as possible host venues for fixtures and training sessions next summer, and the deadline for any clubs to declare their interest comes at the end of the month.

Potential host clubs would be assessed on criteria such as pitch quality, standard and suitability of facilities, and more, and the organising committee are keen to welcome as many applicants from across the island as possible, in order to make sure the visiting teams sample as much of Anglesey as possible during their visit.

Ynys Mon Football’s next open meeting, which will discuss the requirements for potential host clubs in greater detail, as well as expanding on the enthusiasm shown in the first meeting for an Ynys Mon Football Academy, is set for 7pm on July 23 at Tafarn-y-Rhos.

Gareth Parry, Ynys Mon 2019 Project Manager, said: “We have ambitious plans for what we want to achieve, without a doubt, but there is a real appetite and desire to change things for the better here on Anglesey.

“The hard work still lays ahead of us in many respects, but it was great to have so many people in attendance for our first meeting, wanting to come together to bring about an outcome that will benefit the whole island. A number of clubs put themselves forward as potential hosts for 2019, and there was significant interest in bringing together an academy set-up.

“There is still plenty of time for anyone who couldn’t make the first meeting to get involved and for any senior or junior clubs who are interested, I urge them to get in touch as soon as possible – together we can bring about the legacy we all want to leave for our younger generations.”
