RGC star Afon Bagshaw has been named in the Wales Sevens squad for the upcoming World Cup.

The talented back has been rewarded for a series of exceptional performances for the national side since joining the set-up, and he will look to make a further mark on the international stages against the best teams from around the globe.

Gareth Williams’ side take on Zimbabwe in the pre-round of 16 this Friday (10pm) at AT&T Park, home to baseball side the San Francisco Giants in the United States of America.

The head coach, said: “This is a great culmination to our season. The World Cup has been an aim of ours for the past 18 months and we're excited with the squad we have put together.

"We are building nicely towards the opening match versus Zimbabwe and starting well against their physicality and elusiveness is a key aim of ours.

"The tournament structure is different, but exciting, and we are eager to get out there and get things started."

Another RGC connection in the squad is Tom Williams, who is a graduate of the Gogs’ thriving Academy system and is aiming to go out on a high before returning to Ospreys on a full-time basis next season.

One of the Guinness Pro14's biggest young prospects, the Dragons and former Wales U20 back Jared Rosser, is selected, with skipper Adam Thomas and try-scoring sensation Luke Morgan two other squad members who are expected to contribute significantly throughout the tournament, which will be shown live on ITV.
