MENAI Bridge continued their relentless pursuit of the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division title with a convincing seven-wicket win at Northop.

The unbeaten league leaders made light work of their opponents during another commanding display throughout, and Dion Holden’s men now hold a 32-point cushion at the summit ahead of their home clash with Gresford on Saturday.

Bridge bowler Gethin Long made a significant impact with the new ball by taking out dangerous opener Harry Lewis for four, and he swiftly followed this up with the quick-fire wickets of Ben Beaver (0), Jordan Evans (5) and Tom Blackwell (16) on his way to figures of 4-58 from 12 overs.

The skipper also made a huge impression with the ball after dismissing Andrew Oates (12) and Mohammad Khan (0) in quick succession, and he also removed the stubborn Matthew Williams for 59 from 104 deliveries to finish on 4-50.

Another valuable batting effort came from Andy Poynton, who produced a fine knock of 67 to give the home side a final total of 186 all out.

The visiting run chase began impressively with wicketkeeper Jack Gower making 32, but Holden could not replicate his form with the bat and was trapped lbw by Bart Ryan-Beswick after making 15.

Opener Luke Jones was in sensational form with a fantastic 64, and Long also stood out with an unbeaten 59 as the visitors reached their required target for the loss of three wickets after 37 overs at the crease.

Teenage sensation Josh Massey recorded a maiden century for Bridge’s second unit in their ten-wicket triumph at Mold.

The batsman, who recently earned a sports scholarship to Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay, hit 107 not out to lead his side to glory, with fellow opener Cefyn Owen finishing unbeaten on 66.
