ANGLESEY football clubs turned out in force for a special meeting ahead of the 2019 Island Games.

The event surrounding the Ynys Môn Men’s Football team was devised “to plot the way forward and put the groundwork in place for a strong legacy that will benefit Anglesey’s young footballers for years to come”.

A host of representatives from sides across the region attended the meeting at Tafarn-y-Rhos for lengthy discussions on a variety of topics including the possible formation of an Ynys Môn Football Academy.

Those in attendance were also given the opportunity to share their own ideas regarding the development of young players throughout the area.

Gareth Parry, Ynys Môn 2019 Project Manager, said: “I am very thankful to everyone that turned up for the meeting, and the discussions we had were very positive.

“We spoke in length about the tournament itself next summer and the academy plans, and there is plenty of positivity going forward.

“I am looking forward to seeing how the interest develops further heading into the tournament.”

Preparations are continuing ahead of next summer’s tournament, with former Holyhead Hotspur manager Campbell Harrison recently appointed as the man at the helm of the side, and he further strengthened his backroom staff by appointing Llandudno’s Iwan Williams in an assistant role.
