BANGOR City manager Craig Harrison made a huge splash in the transfer market with four new signings this week.

The Citizens’ boss continues to assemble a heavyweight squad ahead of a predicted Huws Gray Alliance title challenge following their shock relegation from the JD Welsh Premier League last term.

The most notable arrival is defender Phil Baker, who enjoyed a trophy-laden decade with all-conquering full-time outfit The New Saints of Oswestry Town, where he worked for a number of years with Harrison before his departure to Hartlepool United.

Also arriving at the VSM Stadium is right-back Lee Owens, who has represented City in the past and has also had spells with Bala Town and Airbus Broughton.

Another making a return to the set-up is combative midfielder Yaalany Baio, who joins from Gibraltar United and is a former Liverpool Academy product, and rounding off the acquisitions is versatile player Andy Jones, who joins from Newtown.

Harrison, said: “In my opinion Phil is the best footballing centre back to have played in the WPL.

“He is a fantastic passer of the ball with a great range both short and long and is as good as I’ve seen playing long diagonal passes. He has won everything there is to win in Welsh football.

“Lee has a very good character, aggressive and extremely tenacious in the challenge. Very good going forward as an offensive full back and loves to get up and down the line. Lee is a proper winner who we are delighted to have here.

“Yalany clearly has quality and pedigree as playing for the likes of Liverpool, Sparta Rotterdam you have to be a very good player. Great enthusiasm, energy, good physicality in a challenge and very determined with a great attitude.

“AJ was the Captain of very successful Airbus and Newtown teams. He is equally at home at the heart of the defence as well as a playing as a central striker.

“He is a leader on and off the pitch and will be invaluable in the dressing room environment.”
