BANGOR City manager Craig Harrison has pulled off a transfer coup with the signing of Colwyn Bay captain Sam Barnes.

The Citizens announced the move late on Tuesday evening, and the standout defender becomes the third new arrival at the VSM Stadium following the arrivals of fans’ favourite Les Davies and Tom Field.

Barnes was one of the top performers for the Evo-stik League side last season under Alan Morgan, who enjoyed a second half resurgence under the former Llandudno boss which almost resulted in an unlikely playoff berth.

The move offsets the recent loss of Anthony Miley from the squad, who opted to stay in the JD Welsh Premier League and join Bala Town.

Harrison, said: "I’m really pleased to get Sam on board and looking forward to working with him.

“He is a good leader and an excellent character. He has been captain of Colwyn Bay for the last two years and numerous other clubs that he has been at.

“He is a strong central defender and has good experience and is just coming into the prime of his career at 26.”

Barnes came through the youth ranks at Liverpool before joining SkyBet League One side Stockport County.

He has also turned out for Marine, Glossop North End and Northwich Victoria throughout his career, and Barnes stated he is “looking forward to playing for the biggest club in Wales under the most successful Manager in Welsh football and looking to get the club back where it belongs”.
