WELSH youth international Josh Massey was the star of the show as Menai Bridge Seconds secured an emphatic 235-run home success over Hawarden Park.

The teenager, who is part of the U15 national side, further demonstrated his immense potential at the crease throughout, while Matthew Jones produced a standout effort with the ball to come away with a five-wicket haul.

Bridge got off to a superb start thanks to the opening pair of Cefyn Owen and Shaun Whitley, who smashed 17 boundaries between them on their way to 53 and 42 respectively.

Massey then took over proceedings with a knock that defied his age, displaying patience and an impressive shot selection before he was eventually dismissed by Nick Woods four short of his century.

Another score of note came from skipper Callum Andrews, who contributed 55, with Ben Hull adding 26 as the hosts posted a formidable total of 333-7 from their 45 overs.

The away side never got close to reaching their required target despite a top score of 33 from opener Peter Hinton, with Jones producing a mesmerising nine over spell to take five wickets for the loss of just 17 runs.

Andrews also managed to claim three victims at the expense of 20 runs as the visitors struggled throughout and were all out for 98 in reply.

The result sees Bridge move into second spot in the North Wales 2nd XI Premier Division standings ahead of their trip to Llay Welfare on Saturday.
