BETHESDA responded to their weekend defeat to Abergele with a narrow 14-run home success over Dolgellau.

The hosts made a difficult start at the crease when Carwyn Williams (6) and Jez Shea (0) were both dismissed early on, while Matty Harrington was caught off a Jack Williams delivery after contributing just 11.

Pesda’s resistance came in the form of Ioan Roberts, who produced a superb innings before he eventually fell at the hands of Phil Leeds on a superb 53.

He was aided at the other end by Mathew Buchanan (29) and skipper Jonathan Williams (30), while Leeds and Mark Edmondson both claimed three wickets apiece as the home side ended their allotted 50 overs on 189-9.

The visiting run chase got off to the worst possible start as the opening pair of Barry Lander and Jack Williamson were both sent packing for a duck, with Josh Williams (7) and Edmondson (5) also out cheaply in the early stages.

A patient knock from Leeds got the away side back into the contest, but he was stumped off a Richard Williams delivery on 47 from 125 balls at a crucial stage of the contest.

Other significant scores came from Gareth Lanagan (22) and Jack Williams (25*), but it was not enough as they narrowly fell short of their target and made 175 in reply.

Gareth Jones was the pick of the Pesda bowlers with figures of 3-17, and the league leaders now have a seven-point cushion at the summit ahead of their trip to second-placed Bersham on Saturday.
