MENAI Bridge turned in another virtuoso display to come away with a superb 189-run win over Llandudno.

The early North Wales Cricket League Premier Division leaders produced another exceptional display with both bat and ball, and they enjoy a comfortable 11-point cushion at the summit ahead of their trip to Connah’s Quay on Saturday.

The home side made a hugely impressive start to their time at the crease, with Jack Gower and Arwel Thomas making 57 and 43 before they were dismissed by Andrew Christian and Rimmington.

Skipper Dion Holden looked set for a big innings until he was caught off a Luke Sumner delivery on 27, but the partnership of Robbie Jones and Gethin Roberts put the hosts in a commanding position which was the catalyst behind their success.

Jones demonstrated his superb shot selection on his way to 61, while Roberts fared even better and ended the day unbeaten on 79.

Sam Rimmington tried to aide his side’s cause with two wickets for the loss of 41 runs and the run out of James Jones (4), but it was not enough to prevent Bridge from posting a formidable target of 289-6 from their 50 overs.

The visiting run chase began poorly when opener Lewis Jones was clean bowled by Dion Owen for seven, while the talented Kevin James was ousted by Roberts after making 18.

Bridge bowler Gerallt Roberts then took over proceedings with the quick-fire wickets of Keegan Armstrong (14) and Sam Rimmington (16), and he also took the scalps of Jake Sumbland (8), Sumner (2) and Hannah Thornton (0) late on to end a sensational ten over spell with figures of 5-21.

Jack Rimmington (11) was the only other Lions’ batsman to make it into the teens as they mustered just 100 all out in reply.

Bridge’s second unit secured a nine-wicket triumph at Mochdre, with Liam Bibby achieving bowling figures of 5-24.
