CONWY Borough have boosted their backroom staff with the appointment of Sara Hilton.

The UEFA A Licence candidate will be part of Gareth Thomas’ coaching staff for the forthcoming season as they return to the Huws Gray Alliance, and it represents a significant boost for female coaches in the region looking to further their careers in the region.

Hilton is a lecturer of football and coaching science at Glyndwr University in Wrexham, while also taking up a role as a coach educator at the FAW Trust.

Following a successful playing career which ended because of injury, Hilton began coaching in 2011, before taking up a BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Sciences course as a full-time student in 2013.

Hilton secured the National Performance Coach of the Year in 2016 and has worked with the U15 Girls’ national team and at JD Welsh Premier League academies and at Crewe Alexandra Ladies.

She will join a hugely successful team that managed to pick up the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One championship, Cookson Cup and FAW Trophy last term in one of the most memorable campaigns in the club’s history.

A Conwy Borough spokesman, said: “We are pleased to announce that UEFA A Licence candidate Sara Hilton will join the coaching staff for the 2018/2019 season.

“She will add further know-how to the first team coaching staff and will hopefully help with the development of the Club as a whole.

“Welcome and best wishes to Sara from everyone at Borough.”
