BANGOR City have changed the landscape of the Huws Gray Alliance with the appointment of Craig Harrison as their new manager.

The Citizens’ revealed the bombshell on Wednesday, May 23, with the trophy laden boss handed the responsibility of guiding the club back to the JD Welsh Premier League following their demotion after failing to secure an FAW Domestic Licence.

Harrison is the most successful manager in the history of Wales’ top flight, having led The New Saints of Oswestry Town to an all-conquering spell of dominance before a high-profile switch to Hartlepool United last summer.

He found life more difficult at the cash-strapped National League club, and left United in February after achieving 10 wins from 36 games, with 16 losses and 10 draws.

After initially taking up a coaching role at Airbus Broughton, Harrison then joined TNS and began a period of dominance over his six years in charge.

In addition to winning six championships, four Welsh Cups and three League Cups, they also broke Ajax's 44-year-old world record for the longest winning streak in top-flight football with 27 victories in a row in all competitions.

The move represents a significant coup for the Citizens, who will ply their trade in the Huws Gray Alliance after “exhausting every avenue” to overturn the decision.

This has resulted in the departures of manager Kevin Nicholson and assistant Gary Taylor-Fletcher, while defender Danny Holmes has also departed to join Andy Morrison at Connah’s Quay.

The new boss was introduced to fans’ and the media at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon and is reported to have been given a hefty budget to get the club back into the top flight at the first opportunity.

Harrison has wasted no time in strengthening the current squad, and the Chronicle understands that cult hero Les Davies has reportedly agreed to return to the VSM Stadium from a spell at Bala Town.

The powerful striker was a legendary figure at City before joining Connah’s Quay, and was nominated for European Player of the Year in 2012.
