A STUNNING century from Matthew Harrington was the catalyst behind Bethesda’s 139-run homw win over North Wales Cricket League Division One rivals Llay Welfare.

The home side made a positive start to their time at the crease until Gareth Edwards was caught off an Ethan Griffiths delivery on 28.

Harrington then took over proceedings with a series of sublime shots that put Pesda fully in the ascendancy, with the talented batsman eventually finishing the day unbeaten on 144 from 124 delivers, which included no fewer than 22 boundaries.

He was ably assisted by the stubborn Jez Shea, who scored 25 from 101 balls, while skipper Jonathan Williams contributed 17 not our as they set a formidable target of 265-5 from their 50 overs.

Their time in the field got off to a good start when Edwards dismissed dangerous opener Joe Howell for just four, and Sean Buchanan proved to be a significant thorn in the Llay side with the scalps of John Lloyd (14), Tom Parry (0) and Mike Phennah (18) on his way to figures of 3-38 from a 12-over spell.

The outstanding Harrington rounded off a sensational performance with the wickets of top scorer David White (27), David Phennah (6) and wicketkeeper Colin Peers on his way to 3-6 from only two overs, and this proved to be crucial as the visitors ended on 126 all out in reply.

Williams’ side face a stern test of their credentials this Saturday when they welcome a powerful Llanrwst side, who are one of the favourites for promotion.
