BANGOR City Men's hockey team remain in the NWHL Division 5 drop zone heading into the last weekend of the season after a 6-0 drubbing at home against league leaders Sandbach on Saturday.

It was easy to see why the visitors are contesting the league title as they dominated the game throughout, particularly so during the first half.

In blizzard like conditions at times, Sandbach's press forced errors all over the park from Bangor.

City keeper Keith Proudlove was a busy man and made several saves, but he could do little to prevent the away side's three first half goals.

Tats Greenhalgh came closest to finding the net for City in the first period, but he had his shot blocked on the line.

Bangor made more of a game of it during the second half, with Ash Hardaker having a drag-flick well saved from a short corner, and Jack Brookes sending a shot whistling past the post after a cross from Oli Fleming. Captain Tom Hughes came inches away from forcing the ball over too, only to have his effort cleared off the line.

However, the menacing Sandbach attack never let up and a further three goals sealed a well-deserved win.

City head into next weekend's double-header two points behind 10th-placed Alderley Edge 5s. Mossley Hill 2nds are Bangor's opponents at the Brailsford Centre pitch on Saturday at 2.15pm, before the Blues play their last game of the season, a rearranged game away to Macclesfield 2nds, at 1.30pm on Sunday.
