A SPIRITED display was not enough to see Llandudno Junction pick up their first win of the Huws Gray Alliance season against Ruthin Town.

The Railwaymen had nothing to show for their efforts after a strong second half display from Chris Williams’ side saw them come away with a 2-0 triumph, and their 17th defeat in 20 league games sees them eight points adrift of safety ahead of their trip to improving Flint Town United on Saturday (2.30pm).

A competitive first period brought no goals for either side despite both enjoying long periods of possession, with Town stopper Ryan Goldston pulling off a number of fine stops in what has been an outstanding season for the young prospect.

After the interval saw the visitors grab the initiative, and they got the crucial breakthrough on 64 minutes when Gwion Owen turned in an opportunity.

The introduction of veteran Craig Wilkinson and Dave Finnie gave the away side a new lease of life, and the second tier’s top scorer Llyr Morris was on hand to fire home his 25th league goal of the campaign to double their tally.

Despite their best efforts, Chris Morrell’s men were unable to get back into the game and suffered defeat.

Next up is another stern test in the form of the Silkmen, who have shown progress under new manager Niall McGuinness and come into the game on the back of an impressive victory at Denbigh Town.
