MEMBERS of a golf club on Anglesey managed to raise £4,192 for Cancer Research Cymru over the course of 2017.

Henllys Golf Club in Beaumaris selected the organisation as their chosen charity and raised the sum through hosting several events throughout the year.

The total funds raised received a major boost from Henllys Golf Club member Chris Hetherington, whose sponsored walk, in three stages, from Chester to Henllys, raised £2,300.

A Charity Golf Day held on Saturday, May 13 2017, where over 120 members and guests took part, raised over £1,200.

Together with raffles, donations (and golfing penalties!) over the year, the grand total of £4,192 was eventually raised.

On Friday, February 2, Captain Ian Owen and Lady Captain Stella Andrew-Reid presented a large cheque on behalf of the club to Dr. Lee Campbell, of the Cardiff-based Cancer Research Wales.

“We are delighted at the fantastic support we have received from Henllys Golf Club and the people of Anglesey over many years." Dr Campbell said.

"The money raised will support vital research projects in the areas of cancer prevention, earlier diagnosis and better treatments.

"It enables local scientists and clinicians to realise their full potential by participating in world-class research, here in Wales, and at the same time help bring improved treatments closer to home”.
