BANGOR CITY began Phase Two of the JD Welsh Premier League season with a resounding 3-0 home win over Cardiff Met.

The Citizens produced another polished display to emerge as comfortable winners against the Students, and the result leaves them in second spot ahead of their crunch clash at leaders The New Saints of Oswestry Town on Friday (7.45pm).

Manager Kevin Nicholson, said: “It's a very good way to start Phase Two. It was an excellent team performance and a fully deserved win.

“It was also our tenth clean sheet of the season. We understood the importance of the game and the players gave everything to get the result.

“To score three goals against the team who have the best defensive record in the league is very pleasing. We could have easily scored a few more as well with the amount of chances we created.

“We played our football, we passed the ball well and we performed with the required energy throughout the game.

“Every player contributed and we have given ourselves something to continue building on moving forwards. We will stay focused - there are nine games to go now and plenty of points still to play for.

“We move onto our next game with confidence, belief and knowing that if we perform to our capabilities, we can beat anyone.”

The home side got off to the perfect start when assistant manager Gary Taylor-Fletcher headed home a Luke Wall delivery after just seven minutes, and they managed to double their tally after the break on 48 courtesy of an Anthony Miley header from a Steven Hewitt free-kick.

In-form striker Dean Rittenberg continued his excellent recent form with another superb finish to wrap up the points, and City saw out the remainder of the game in comfortable fashion to record their 13th triumph in 23 league contests.
