A MENAI Bridge prospect has accepted a sports scholarship to a North Wales school.

Joshua Massey, who also represents Eryri and is a member of the Marylebone Cricket Club Foundation Hub in the region, will join the Rydal Penrhos in Colwyn Bay from September following a successful application process.

The Welsh youth international turned out 14 times for Bridge’s second unit last season and averaged 22.2, which included an unbeaten 50 in their 96-run victory over Gresford.

He also took eight wickets from just 33 overs at an average of 15.28 with season best figures of 4/24 against Mochdre.

Massey relocated from South Africa to Anglesey five years ago, and within one week of joining Bridge he was put forward for the Eryri set-up, which he has been a part of for the last four years.

He is also a member of the Glamorgan Pro Elite training programme and has been working with Bridge captain Dion Holden at the MCCF, which is held at Rydal Penrhos for elite cricketers within the state school system.

The 15-year-old, said: "I am looking forward to being part of Rydal Penrhos, and furthering my education to the very best level I can achieve. “I do believe that completing my Sixth Form with Rydal Penrhos will allow me to reach my full potential in my dreams of both Marine Biology and Cricket.

“I am enjoying the MCC programme and its excellent coaching. I am learning different techniques, methods of playing different shots and improving pace.

“An added benefit is the fitness coaching, which involves cardio, flexibility, agility and speed. The MCC also prepares me mentally for the upcoming season to get my full potential out of the time I have.

“I would like to thank the coaches and the MCC Foundation for inviting me to be part of this programme."
