CAERNARFON Town pulled off a stunning fightback to claim a last gasp 3-3 draw at Huws Gray Alliance title rivals Denbigh Town.

The Canaries needed a stoppage time penalty from Nathan Craig to claim a share of the spoils after being 3-1 down and reduced to ten men, and they face another huge test in their home clash with a resurgent Rhyl at The Oval on Saturday (2.30pm).

Manager Sean Eardley, said: “I was happy with a point and don’t think my heart could take much more.

“It must have been good for the neutral with plenty of chances and I am relieved after being 3-1 down we changed formation to salvage something and it worked again.

“Jay (Gibbs) has come on and had an impact and Kev (Lloyd) worked his socks off and the biggest thing to take away was the togetherness and the unity within the dressing room.

“We spoke about starting slow as a group and need to find the right ingredient to begin better. There were some choice words at half time and the boys were raring to go, but then we conceded two in five minutes so it might be a mental block and the players have to take responsibility and must start on the front foot and encourage each other otherwise Rhyl are going to punish us.

“As a team we have to realise everyone has a part to play from now until the end of the season and it is going to be a fight. We have 11 games left and we are looking forward to it.”

Warren Duckett gave the home side the lead with a superb effort on ten minutes, before Craig notched the first of his two spot kicks to level matters on the stroke of half time.

After the break saw the home side score twice in quick succession through Andrew Swarbrick and Craig Pritchard, while at the other end Joe Williams’ thunderbolt reduced the arrears on 61 minutes.

Defender Rhys Roberts was shown a red card for the visitors to make their task more difficult, but a Craig penalty on 94 minutes secured a point in dramatic fashion after Jamie Breese had been felled in the box.
