NO SOONER than Menai Bridge signed off their second consecutive North Wales title-winning campaign last weekend, captain Robbie Jones has already set his sights on sealing the “hat-trick” next season.

A routine 83-run success at home to relegated Northop last Saturday marked the end of another highly successful campaign for the Anglesey side, which saw them top the North Wales Cricket Premier Division table by a margin of 40 points.

Robbie Jones said: “It was a big celebration after the game. It was good to finish with a win as well and the league table doesn’t lie.

“We didn’t want to be branded the ‘one season wonders’, so we were really determined to get the double done this year.

“We’re obviously going to go for the hat-trick next season.”

Among this year’s star performers for Menai were all-rounder Ashley Wood, who topped the league’s bowling stats with 56 wickets, 16 year-old wicket-keeper Jack Gower, the wicket-keeper with most dismissals in the Premier Division (31), and Australian import Dean Harbour, who bagged an impressive 44 wickets.

Jones stressed however that each of his players proved to be match-winners during the course of the season.

He added: “Team spirit certainly counts for a lot and we spend a lot of time with each other. Team spirit is very much a part of what we have through the whole club. The club is looking strong throughout at the moment.”

Matt Bixby (44) and Dion Holden (46) headed the Bridge innings as theyedged to 184 all-out against Northop last Saturday.

Gerallt Roberts led the bowling charge for the home side, claiming 5-27, while Wood added 3-19, as the visitors’ run chase was brought to a premature end in the 38th over, having accumulated just 101 runs.

Third XI Division champions Menai Bridge thirds ended their season with a four-wicket win at Buckley, with Tony Stephens hitting a half-century.
