FORGET Team GB’s Super Saturday - this was Ynys Môn’s Thrilling Thursday at the 2015 Island Games in Jersey.

In just one day, Team Anglesey doubled its medal tally from four to eight as the island’s sailors and athlete Mikaela Harrison brought home no less than four gold medals.

Môn’s sailors had dominated the team competition throughout the week, and yesterday their win was confirmed when race nine and ten were abandoned due to unsuitable weather.

The team, featuring Dominic Breen-Turner, Eifion Mon, Michael Thorne and Benjamin Todd eventually took first place by a huge margin of 48 points, from second-placed Aland.

Also earning himself a comfortable victory in the individual stakes was Eifion Mon, who came first in the Laser Standard Rig competition by a 10-point margin, after the final two races were also abandoned.

And Benjamin Todd earned the team’s third gold medal on the water in the Laser Radial Rig classification.

His triumph was made even more remarkable given that he was shown a U Flag in the very first race, automatically putting him at the bottom of the standings.

Over the next seven races however, Benjamin recovered to put himself one point ahead of the rest of the field, and like team-mate Eifion, earn his second medal of the games.

Capping a memorable day for Môn was athlete Mikaela Harrison, who had previously won a bronze medal in the 400m on Tuesday.

Running in the 400m hurdles on Thursday, Mikaela produced another magnificent performance and won a tight three-horse race to take gold by a mere 0.10 seconds from Jersey’s Claire Lidster.

Elsewhere, the island’s men and ladies’ football team brought their campaigns to an end with defeats.

The men sealed an eighth place finish in the tournament after they lost a tight 7th/8th play-off against host side Jersey by a slender 1-0 margin.

The ladies team finished in 10th place after they suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Greenland.

Heading into the final day, Team Môn will hope to go out with a bang today as they still hold out hopes for medals in the shooting and athletics track.
