Valley’s Jamie Owen with his BBU Wales belt.

AN Anglesey boxer claimed a national title when he stopped an esteemed opponent in a bout last weekend.

Jamie Owen, aged 21, from Valley, was awarded the British Boxing Union (BBU) Wales after dropping opponent, Paul Bailey, in the third round in their bout at the Kinmel Manor Hotel.

Wrexham’s Bailey, trained by his ex-pro champion fighter and father Martin Bailey, couldn’t cope with the Valley boxer’s clever tactics of staying on his back foot, and was unable to get up from a big right hand during the third.
