Runners line the start of the Twin Piers 10k

THE CROWDS gathered in Llandudno on the weekend to witness this year’s Twin Piers 10k race.

Despite the wintry conditions, hundreds of runners from all across north Wales and beyond lined up at the starting line of one of Tudno’s premier sporting events.

The men’s race was eventually won by Deganwy runner James Bleakley, representing Trafford AC, who crossed the finish line in 34 minutes 30 seconds, eight seconds ahead of Deeside AAC’s Lee Jones.

Eryri Harriers duo Brendan Rothery and Daniel Kashi took third and fourth, in times of 34mins 45secs and 35 mins 30 secs respectively.

Bangor University runner Sarah Caskey emerged victorious in the Womens race, completing the course in 39mins 32secs, from Trentham RC’s Christine Holmes, 40mins 11secs, and Colwyn Bay AC’s Isabel Redfern, who crossed in 40mins 19secs.

The other winners on the day were Eryri Harriers, who took the inaugural Tom Watson Memorial Trophy for the best team.

Tom Watson was a Colwyn Bay AC runner who died last year aged 30 years old, and is still remembered fondly by his club.
