BANGOR City will hope to make the most of home advantage as they prepare to face Zimbru Chisinau in this week’s Europa League First Qualifying Round match at Nantporth.

The Citizens host their Moldovan opposition tonight (Thursday), as they look to progress to the next round of qualifying for the competition, where they could face Swiss outfit Young Boys Berne.

Bangor manager Nev Powell has included new signings Chris Simm and Liam Brownhill in the squad, but will have to sweat over the fitness of Chris Roberts, who has a thigh problem, and Sion Edwards, who was out with a virus last week.

The squad have been in training for the last month in preperation for the tie, as they hope to notch only their third win in European competition.

City manager Nev Powell said: “The lads have been training well, and they’re looking fit and hungry so everybody’s looking forward to another European adventure.

“I remember when I played for Bangor, against Fredrikstad and Atletico Madrid, and there was a buzz about the city, and we’ll be hoping to re-create that again this week.”

Their opponents, Zimbru Chisinau, finished third in the Moldovan top flight last season, and Powell hopes that the Nantporth faithful can help his side overcome their unknown opponents.

“Obviously they’re difficult to prepare for, but we’ve had a look on the internet.
“We can’t be too defensive against them, we have to try and get a goal or two without conceding. The lads are prepared and it should be another great occasion for the club.”
