HOLYHEAD weightlifter Gareth Evans has been named in the British Weightlifting Team for this Summer’s London Olympics.
The 26 year old has been named in the five-strong team following his British Championship win three weeks ago.
Evans lifted the ‘B’ qualifying standard of 277kg on two seperate occasions to secure qualification, and joins fellow lifter Natasha Perude as one of two Welsh representatives in the team.
The Holyhead Weightlifting Club graduate left his job last year to train with the elite weightlifting squad at Leeds, and he can now look forward to a busy summer as prepares to take on the world’s best in July.
