CAERNARFON crashed out of the Swalec Plate as they were well beaten by league rivals Nant Conwy.
ON A heavy pitch, a new look Caernarfon side were pinned in their own half from the start.
Having threatened the Cofi line for the opening fifteen minutes, the hosts were rewarded when prop Elgan Jones touched down after some quick thinking by Carwyn Ellis from a lineout.
Carwyn ap Myrddin slotted the conversion and soon added to his points tally when another crisp move allowed him space to sprint clear to ground on twenty minutes for a converted try.
Just before the break a Nant penalty attempt rebounded off the upright, and only decisive action from Iolo Hughes prevented the visitors from going further down.
The Cofis improved significantly during the second half, and got on the scoreboard when centre Gwylim Jones touched down after a marauding run by full-back Dylan Parry.
Nant responded well, and the forwards exerted heavy pressure on the opposition line, which resulted in Ellis touching down, again converted by ap Myrddin.
The three-score gap, along with injuries to key players took the wind out of Cofi sails, and in the last ten minutes they conceded another converted try after Eryl Jones finished off a Nant attack after several phases of play.
Caernarfon’s next match is a league encounter away to Mold on Saturday, February 11.
Mold 3 Bethesda 36
BETHESDA progressed into the fourth round of the Swalec plate with a drubbing of home side Mold.
Playing down the slope in the first half, Bethesda showed their intentions in the first few minutes with some incisive running.
After five minutes, wing Daniel Ogwen Jones crossed in the corner to open the scoring, after some interpassing between himself and Steven Roberts.
Six minutes later, Bethesda centre Ben Stelmaszek intercepted the ball from a Mold attack and ran the length of the pitch to score between the posts, with Mathew Parry adding the extras.
This was quickly followed by another try, which saw Parry combine with Daniel Jones to score between the posts, giving himself an easy conversion.
Mold hit back with a Steve Quinton penalty on 30 minutes, but found themselves trailing further before half time, as Jones scored his second try.
The second half started well for Bethesda when Parry sliced through the home defence to score a fine individual try in the corner.
Mold replied by exerting pressure on the visitors and mounted a series of attacks in the Bethesda twenty-two, but the visitors held firm and coped well with the opposition threat.
With 10 minutes of the match remaining, Bethesda hooker, Steven Roberts broke free and ran the distance to score the final try of the match, which Parry converted, to complete a comprehensive win for the visitors.
Bala 6 Llangefni 12
LLANGEFNI earned another important victory at Bala to boost their hopes of maintaining their Division One status next season.
The visitors owed much of their victory to fly-half Carwyn Milburn who successfully kicked four penalties in a game where both sides struggled to assert their dominance.
The home side spent much of the second half on the attack, but Llangefni maintained a tight defensive line to shut the opposition out and claim a crucial victory for the second week in succession.
