BANGOR City began life at Nantporth Stadium with a 6-1 drubbing of Welsh Alliance Caernarfon Wanderers in the Coast FA Cup.
More than 1,200 people attended the match, which was delayed by 15 minutes to allow fans time to enter the stadium.
And Bangor nearly got off to the worst possible start, with a short pass handing Jonathan Sadler a clear opportunity, but Lee Idzi spared his side’s blushes with a fine stop.
The home side took heed of this early warning and began to play some good passing football, and after a couple of long range efforts, they took the lead on 9 minutes when Chris Jones’ sidefooted volley beat ‘keeper Dylan Roberts.
Three minutes later Bangor doubled their advantage when Jones’ clever run from the right took him beyond the Wanderers’ defence and he finished with aplomb.
Bangor were dominating proceedings throughout the first half, and they struck again when Les Davies headed neatly into the top corner from a Sion Edwards corner.
It was Edwards who grabbed Bangor’s fourth, applying the finishing touch to an incisive attack.
The hosts were five up on 32 minutes when Craig Garside managed to get on the end of another Jones cross.
The second half began in the same vein as the first, with Bangor creating several chances to extend their lead.
Substitute Alan Bull put further distance between the two sides when he guided the ball into the bottom corner from close range.
The visitors did manage to create a couple of chances of their own, with Gavin Jennings heading Gari Jones’ centre just wide early into the second period.
In the last half an hour the game settled into a much more balanced affair, and on 85 minutes the Wanderers reduced the deficit when Gavin Lloyd Jones provided a cool finish that Idzi could not keep out.
City will host a Wigan Athletic XI at Nantporth on Saturday (KO 2.30pm).
