Bethesda 3 pts Nant Conwy 6 pts
THE hardy souls who braved the wind and rain saw Pesda lose out in tight Division One North encounter where both sides played through the forwards.
In fact, the packs were so dominant that each side only created one try scoring opportunity apiece throughout the game.
Peredur Ellis’ penalty kick from about 30 metres out was the only score during a tightly-contested first half.
It was a similar tale in the second half, with Pesda number 10 Dylan Roberts converting a penalty kick on 52 minutes.
Nant retaliated, however, and would have scored a try had Wyn Roberts grounded the ball.
With 10 minutes of play left, Ellis converted another penalty kick to score what turned out to be the winning points.
The home side now controlled the game for the last few minute, but failed to capitlise on a try scoring oppportunity and three penalties.
Next up for Bethesa is an away trip to Bro Ffestiniog on Saturday.
Menai Bridge 25 pts Bangor 5pts
DEMOTED Bangor’s disappointing start to the season continued with defeat in the first league encounter between the rival sides.
Early pressure saw home number eight Gareth Parry open the scoring with a try within five minutes, while right wing Rob McGuffie touched down to give Menai a 10-0 lead at the break.
Menai grabbed two tries within five minutes of the restart, with scores from left wing Scott Clarke and a second from Parry.
However, Clarke was taken to hospital after he suffered a serious leg injury just minutes after his try.
After a 15 minute delay, Huw Humphreys took advantage of a Menai error to score a consolation try for the visitors.
Into the last quarter, Terry Hughes forced his way over the line after a forward drive to cap a deserved win for the home side.
The Bridge will face a stern test at home to early pace-setters Shotton Steel (2.30pm).
Bangor, who faced Holywell in the North Wales Intercup on Tuesday, will travel to Rhos.
PLAYERS and fans observed a minute’s silence before kick-off in memory of former Menai player Callum MacKay, who died in a recent sea accident.
