WORK on new £4.2m business units to boost business and jobs is set to get underway in Llangefni.

The project is part of Isle of Anglesey County Council efforts to support business development and job creation on the island.

New business units and extra office space is to be developed on the Parc Bryn Cefni Enterprise Zone in Llangefni.

The units will be available to let in early 2019.

Recognising the importance of small and medium business, the development ensures the island keeps pace with the Wylfa Newydd Nuclear new build and other developments which are set to create supply chain opportunities.

Dawnus Construction Holdings Ltd, which has its North Wales office in Bangor, has been appointed to undertake the works following an open tender process. The work is to begin in early March.

The development of five new units on the former Môn Training site will provide over 1,200m² of office, light industrial and storage space for businesses.

In addition, over 700m² of office space will be created as the Anglesey Business Centre is extended.

Major projects and economic development portfolio holder Cllr Carwyn Jones said: “The Bryn Cefni site is one of the top three premier Enterprise Zones sites identified due to its strategic position in the centre of the Island, and its links with the Grwp Llandrillo Menai Campus that will serve the energy sector developments over the next decade.

“The scale of planned investment in low carbon energy sector alone over the next 15 years could amount to around £12bn.

"These new units and extra office space will support the continued economic growth of Anglesey, the wider North Wales region and the ongoing development of our Energy Island Programme.”

Anglesey’s head of regulation and economic development Dylan Williams added: “We recognise the importance of European Union funding and Welsh Government support.

"The new provision will add value, hopefully enable existing businesses to grow and attracting new enterprise to the island.”

The new units on both sites are due to be completed by end of 2018.
