STUDENTS have been enlisted to help promote the upcoming General Election.
Gr?p Llandrillo Menai was one of only five student unions across the UK to have been awarded £10,000 to promote awareness of the May 7 Election and encourage young people to register to vote.
Rock your Vote is a programme of events targeting first-time voters to engage in the democratic process.
Awareness was raised through a series of activities across nine of Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Menai and Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s campuses, including live bands and promotional photo booths, as well as explanations on how to vote in the General Election provided by electoral staff from the local authority.
One student commented: “I wouldn’t have registered to vote if it wasn’t for the college initiative.
"I am now looking at the manifestos of all the parties, and, surprisingly, it is all quite exciting.”
Staff were on-hand across the campuses to help with the registration process, which has seen hundreds of students register to vote.
