A CALL for more contributions to a local foodbank has been by a Llanfairfechan councillor.

Cllr Penny Andow set up the foodbank after becoming aware of the need to help local people last Christmas. She said: “It became obvious there was need for a foodbank in the town, and with the amazing support of Christ Church, I and some volunteers got on and set one up. The Church Council gave permission to house the foodbank.

“Initially we had tremendous support from the public. I put a post on Llanfairfechan notice board asking for donations of food and within three days I had 12 car boot loads of food donated from the local community, but we need to sustain that support.

“Now we have 23 Volunteers who have signed up to cover every aspect of running the foodbank.”

She added: “While the Llanfairfechan community has been really generous and supportive, we still need a constant supply of food. Hence I want to appeal to the public for more contributions to meet the continuing need. Food is distributed from Christ Church every Wednesday between 1.00 and 2.00 pm.”

Cllr Andow, who serves on both Llanfairfechan Town Council and Conwy County Borough Council, added: “We have collection boxes in all key locations in the town, in four pubs, the golf club, the sailing club, the local nursery, in the Cooperative store, in cafes, churches and chapels, in total 14 collection points.”
