A YOUNG mother from Anglesey is set to run, swim and climb her way to several finish lines throughout 2018 to raise money for a charity close to her heart.

Danielle Thomas from Llangefni will be taking on the mammoth challenge of completing 11 different races and over 150km in aid of Kidney Care UK.

The 29-year-old was born with congenital Nephrotic Syndrome, which meant that both of her kidneys had failed.

She decided to choose the charity as they supported her through her teenage years of living as a kidney patient, especially when she had to have a life-saving transplant when she was just seven years old.

"That young man who donated that kidney to me not only saved my life but gave life to my son too," Danielle said.

"After having a baby boy of my own in September of last year I feel it is time truly say thank you for the gift that is life.

"Kidney Care UK Charity have, over the last two decades, given me and so many other kidney transplant patients some normality in our lives."

Danielle's first event will be the Anglesey half-marathon this Sunday, which is fittingly held just days before World Kidney Day on March 8.

She says that her main motivation for taking on the challenge is to raise money for the Renal Unit in Bangor who's chosen charity is Kidney Care UK.

"If it wasn't for the whole teams incredible support, before, throughout and after my pregnancy, my baby boy wouldn't be here, nor would I." Danielle explained.

"As a result of completing these events my blood pressure will reduce back to my pre-baby BP which in turn will help improve my kidney function."

Danielle's other races in the coming weeks include; the Waves, Mud and Mountains race in Snowdonia on March 24,

the Chester half marathon on April 29 and the Big Rock 10k in Penmaenmawr on May 5.

She will also be participating in events in Abersoch, Felinheli, Bangor, Flintshire and Conwy later on in 2018.

Danielle hopes that she can repay the Kidney Care UK for the efforts their staff went to to improve her quality of life.

"Kidney Care UK gave me an award for Courage and Endurance and it really inspired me," she said.

"I wanted to thank the charity and give something back so that they can help others like me. "

Danielle has raised £405 so far but says that she intends to reach her target of £1000 before the end of the year. To donate to her cause, visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/danirunningforrenal
