MEMBERS of the Bangor University Karate Union (BKU) impressed in the Yorkshire Open Championships last week, claiming five medals.
At the event held in Barnsley on February 11, the team competed across all disciplines in a total of seven categories.
The female novice competitors within the group dominated their category of the Kata event taking 1st (Amy Hepburn) 2nd (Bethany Pettifor) and 3rd place (Belinda Cano).
Elisha Sudlow-Poole fought well in the Kumite competition and came away with a bronze medal.
In the Male Lightweight category Sean England also claimed a bronze medal after competing in a tense semi-final match.
Tanya Riley, who has been the club's instructor for the past 17 years, said: " It was the first outside competition the team have attended and it was a fantastic day.
"The BKU congratulates all the well-deserved medallists and competitors who did themselves, the club and the university proud."
The club, which celebrated its two year anniversary last week, train on Wednesdays between 2-5pm at Academi and are always looking for new members of any skill level.
