A WOMAN has celebrated reaching a weight-loss target by donating 15 inches of her red hair to a children’s charity.

Gwenan Jones, from Llanberis, has given the hair to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real-hair wigs free of charge to children and young adults up to the age of 24 who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.

The 34-year-old Slimming World member vowed to donate some of her hair once she achieved her target of getting her weight down to 13 stone.

And she has also managed to raise £120 for the charity, with money still coming in.

Gwenan had her hair cut at Elaine’s Hair & Beauty Salon in Llanrug, which provided its services for free.

“I have not been the weight I am at now since I was about 13 years old.” Gwenan said.

“I have been growing my hair for a couple of years and decided last year that I wanted to cut it off and donate it to Little Princess Trust. I have long red hair and have been told my whole life how lucky I am to have it and so I would love to think that it could be made into a wig for a little red-head girl, who might feel a little more like herself for having it.”

The Little Princess Trust asks for a minimum of seven inches of hair, but Gwenan had more cut off in order to leave her with the bob style she felt suited her. The session took about an hour.

Gwenan added: “I received my five-stone loss award on Tuesday, one year to the day from when I joined Slimming World.”
