A SENIOR brass band, made up of people from Gwynedd and Anglesey, has recently achieved national recognition.

The Gwynedd and Môn Senior Brass Band came third and were awarded the Gold Award at the Brass Bands Championship held at Warwick.

The band, who are part of Gwynedd and Môn Schools Music Service, beat off competition from 15 rivals from across the UK.

Led by Dylan Williams, the band included pupils ranging in age from 13 to 18 years old, who receive instrumental lessons in schools on Anglesey and in Gwynedd.

Ann Jones, Manager of the Gwynedd a Môn Schools Music service said: “ We are extremely proud of these young musicians.

"We are grateful to them all for their commitment during their busy exam revision period.

"This is a fantastic achievement and testament to the talent and hard work of our tutors and pupils.”

The Senior Brass Band will now take part in a workshop with winners of Band Cymru 2018 - Cory Band.

They will also be part of the Cory Band's concert held at Bangor University's P.J. Hall on June 2.

The Gwynedd and Anglesey Schools Music Service has been providing lessons in schools across both counties for over 20 years and currently has over 3,000 pupils being taught by 50 tutors.
