THE POPULAR St. David's Day parades held annually in Gwynedd and Anglesey may have to be postponed to later dates due to current weather conditions, according to organisers.
With both regions affected by the "Beast from the East" snowfall this week, it has been announced that Holyhead's St. David's Day Parade has been moved to 9.30am on Thursday, March 8.
Helen Williams, head of Menter Iaith Mon one of the organising partners of the events, said that safety should always be paramount.
“We had to focus on the children and came to a decision that it was too hazardous for them to parade in these icy conditions," she said.
"On the other hand, the parade is very important to them and should be rescheduled. It is therefore a great relief to us all that we have been able to move it to the other date.
"The singing will be fantastic because they’ll have had an extra week’s practice!"
The proposed concert which was set to include Only Boys Aloud, the Holyhead Male Voice Choir, Magee Brothers, and Sophie Jane has been cancelled indefinitely due to the change of date.
The St. David's Day parades in Bangor and Llangefni are expected to go ahead but are dependant on the effects of the weather.
