A school in Bangor has closed its doors one last time this week, as it prepares for closure.

Ysgol Glancegin Primary School in Maesgeirchen, just outside of Bangor, is all set to officially close down after being in existence for 48 years.

However, pupils of the school marked the occasion with happiness not disappointment, celebrating with a party and disco as they got to start their summer holidays.

School governer, Ffion Thomas decided that the party was the best way to mark the “end of an era”.

The children who attend Glancegin will now be moving to a £5.1 million replacement in September, as their current school will be knocked down over the next few weeks, hence why they have had to move out of there rather suddenly.

The new establishment will have room for 240 children and will offer an external teaching space, as well as providing new play areas for the pupils to enjoy during breaks and lunch time.

A spokesperson for Ysgol Glancegin said: “It is sad to see the school being forced to close down, but the children are all excited to be moving to the new building and I think that the way that we have gone about clsoing it, for example by hosting the disco on the final day, is most certainly the best we could have come up with.

”On their final day at Glancegin the children sang joyous songs that they had been practicing for awhile, so it was a lovely end to the school’s 48-year history.”

First opened in 1969, Ysgol Glancegin has seen many a pupil from the Maesgeirchen area walk through its doors over the years and many of them will no doubt have fond memories of the building.
