Police are seeking a criminal behaviour order against a troubled former officer who suffered post-traumatic stress and turned to drink after she discovered a decomposed body.

Elliw Jones, 27, of Llanwnda, Caernarfon, who a court heard served two-and-a-half years with the North Wales force, was fined £100 after she admitted being drunk and disorderly at a hotel at the town on May 9. She also pleaded guilty to common assaults on her parents after being accused of biting hands.

Magistrates at Caernarfon imposed a twelve-month community order with alcohol treatment and 100 hours unpaid work. She must pay £255 costs. The criminal behaviour order application will be contested next month.

Court chairman Peter Evans told her: "We are clearly concerned about these incidents. We can only imagine how difficult it must have been for your parents to complain to the police about these incidents. You clearly need assistance to overcome your alcohol dependency.”

Angharad Mullarkey, prosecuting, said police were called by hotel staff because Jones was drunk and causing a nuisance in the toilets, shouting and swearing repeatedly. The lawyer said Jones had lived with her family but there was friction and there had been numerous calls to police seeking assistance with her behaviour. On May 25, after she had been drinking, Jones had been aggressive and insulting at home, slapping her mother and pulling her hair as well as biting the parents.

In January 2017 Jones was convicted of drink-driving.

Liz Jones, defending, said the ex-officer had served at Caernarfon and Blaenau Ffestiniog but was affected badly when she discovered the body. She had PTSD and depression. She left the force and her problems started. She was now on sick leave from a new administrative job.

Miss Jones said the defendant and was entering rehab. “She accepts there are issues surrounding alcohol,” she added.
