After being mocked by two men because he was taking his cat for a walk on a lead, Julian Portelli went to his flat to arm himself with a hammer.

During a subsequent struggle in a car park at Bethesda a lock knife fell from his pocket.

An eye witness picked up the hammer and knife and handed them to police, after which Portelli, aged 31, of High Street in the town was arrested.

The story was told by prosecutor Nia Lloyd at a weekend court at Llandudno when he pleaded guilty to having a hammer, an offensive weapon, in a public place and also to possessing the knife.

Portelli told police the hammer was for protection but he had no intention of using it.

He was bailed until Thursday, June 7 at Caernarfon, when a probation report will be available.
