A 48-year-old paedophile had once been offered vile images of boys after meeting another man in church, a judge commented on Friday.

Nicholas Walker, aged 49, of Maes Llewellyn, Aberffraw in Anglesey, already serving 20 months in prison for breaching a sex offenders' order for the third time, admitted three child porn charges relating to eight images. Two were of the worst category.

Ryan Rothwell, prosecuting at Caernarfon crown court, said: "He's a persistent sex offender described by probation as high risk and lacking self control."

Walker, due for release in a year's time, was given a twelve months sentence, which will run concurrently and not in addition to his present term. Judge Huw Rees explained this was to avoid double jeopardy because of his previous sentence.

The judge said in recent years Walker had persisted in an interest in young children, particularly boys, and had breached orders intended to curb his behaviour.

Judge Rees warned that unless he changed, sentences would be longer and longer. Walker is subject to a lifetime Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

Barrister Vince Williams, defending, said that in prison Walker had engaged in a "thinking skills course" which could be of benefit.
