A MAN climbed on a roof and threw slates at police officers following the theft of a minibus in Caernarfon.

A cordon was put in place after the man fled to a rooftop above Carlton Bakery in Bangor Road.

At about 6.45pm, on Monday, North Wales Police had been called to reports of a white Ford Transit minibus being stolen from the Castle Hill area.

Officers were quickly on the scene and located the vehicle unattended at the rear of Wetherspoons in the town.

They were also able to identify three suspects nearby, a man and a woman were arrested, but another man fled the scene.

In a statement a police spokesperson said: "He began to dislodge slates and throw them towards attending officers. An immediate cordon was set in place and specialist assistance summoned."

"At about 8.30pm. the man, a 24-year-old from Talysarn, came down, of his own accord and was detained for his own safety. "

His accomplices, were a 29-year-old man from Treborth, and 20-year-old woman from Llangefni, who remain in custody in connection with the theft of a vehicle.

Insp Daf Curry, at Caernarfon Police Station, said: "Fortunately officers were quickly on the scene to effect arrests and were alive to the potential risk to the public and so immediately established a cordon.

"I’m also relived the man was talked down safely and despite an array of objects thrown from the roof no one no was injured.

Despite individuals being arrested our investigation has only just started and so I’m appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour to contact Police.

"I’d also like to add my thanks to the local community for their patience and understanding given the disruption caused yesterday evening."
