ARFON'S Hywel Williams MP and Siân Gwenllian AM have welcomed innovative plans by the Plaid Cymru Group on Caernarfon Town Council to help tackle some of the pressing issues facing residents in the town.

Following a Plaid Cymru recommendation to Caernarfon Town Council, a cross-party working committee has been set up to address specific issues of concern to the local community.

These include increasing the frequency of grass cutting and the collection of cut grass and ensuring that an additional 200 hours a year of street cleaning is undertaken.

They will also pay for the services of a bird of prey, such as an owl, to deal with seagulls during nesting season, assess the need for additional bus shelters and the location of rubbish and dog fouling bins, before considering whether more are needed.

The Town Council also backed a motion from Plaid Cymru Councillor for Cadnant, Cemlyn Williams to begin discussions with Gwynedd Council about the future of Caernarfon Youth Club.

"At a time of unrelenting financial pressure on local authorities, it is encouraging to see a Plaid Cymru led Town Council providing practical solutions to real concerns of local people," Hywel Williams MP said.

"I’m pleased to be backing the Plaid Cymru Group on the Town Council, working in partnership with others to drive forward this ambitious and pragmatic proposal to get to grips with some of the bread and butter issues affecting residents in Caernarfon.’

Siân Gwenllian AM added: "I would like to congratulate Caernarfon Town Council for their actions and plans to date.

"Plaid Cymru is against cutting services but when those cuts have to happen at a local level because there is not enough money in the coffers, it’s good to see local councils taking the initiative to do something about the situation in a positive way."

The pair added that they were especially pleased to see that discussions with a view to continuing the Youth Club at Penrallt are now underway.

Chair of the Working Committee, Cllr Cai Larsen also praised the initiative.

"While canvassing during the elections in May & June last year, Plaid Cymru Caernarfon had opportunities to discuss at length the issues that worry the people of the town.

"These steps are an initial response to the conversations we had then. We look forward to building on, & improving the new provisions over the next few years."
