PLANS have been drawn up to move a Llangefni supermarket - right across the road.

The town’s Lidl store could be transferred into new, larger premises directly opposite the existing supermarket on Industrial Estate Road under the German retailer’s plans to “meet growing demand.”

The move, which would include the redevelopment of the vacant former Ysgol y Bont school site, would create 20 jobs.

Stuart Jardine, Lidl’s head of property in the UK, said: “Our existing store on Industrial Estate Road can no longer meet the growing needs of our customers, or our evolving business model.

“Therefore, we would like to build a new, much-improved store just across the road, on part of the former school site.

“This would allow us to provide a better shopping and working environment for our customers and employees alike, and enable the creation of new jobs for local people.”

The supermarket chain showed off its plans for a new “modern, spacious supermarket” and acommpanying car park at Canolfan Ebeneser Community Centre, Bridge Street, on Tuesday.

Lidl’s development team were on hand to answer questions about the proposals and seeking feedback from the community.

Ms Jardine added: “Before we submit a planning application for the store to the council, we would like to consult the local community, giving people the chance to view the plans and have their say.

“All feedback received will be carefully considered and, where appropriate and possible, incorporated into our proposals.”

The company says it will submit a planning application to Anglesey Council in the coming weeks.
