SPENDING a penny may be a thing of the past at the former public toilets in an Anglesey village, but the conveniences have now gone on the market with an asking price of £20,000.

Anglesey council is actively marketing Llanfairpwll’s closed public toilets, which are being advertised as suitable for “a number of commercial purposes”, although preference will be given to any plans that would reopen the toilets for the general public.

The building, measuring 52 square metres, is located near the playing fields in the centre of the village.

The authority said: “The property is a single storey building of brick/block construction with rendered elevations under a pitched roof.

“The building may be considered suitable for conversion into a number of different commercial uses, subject to being granted the necessary statutory consents.

“The seller will give preference to any bidder proposing to retain a public convenience facility and will encourage the successful purchaser to take part in the Community Toilet Grant Scheme where businesses could receive a payment for making their existing toilet facilities available to the public.”

Several of the island’s closed public toilets have been converted into alternative uses, including one in Llannerch-y-medd which was turned into a house.

The convenience was one of several shut in 2012 as part of council cutbacks, but was transformed into a two bedroom cottage after planning permission was granted.
