A GWYNEDD sports club scooped two of the big prizes at the Welsh Disability Sports Awards in Cardiff last week.

Bangor Gymnastics Club

Bangor Gymnastics Club won the "Insport Club of the Year" whilst coach Mair Eluned won the "Transforming Lives Award".

Mair was praised for all her volunteer work whilst running the disability Gymnastics sessions at the club.

She has been a volunteer for over 20 years and also set-up and developed the disability programme in recent years, now running three sessions a week for children and adults of all abilities.

The Club were nominated by Marcus Politis, Gwynedd’s Disability Sport Wales Development Officer.

"I have worked as a Disability Sport Wales Development Officer for 14 years and previously managed two Leisure Centres and I can honestly say I’ve never come across a club like Bangor's before." said Mr Politis.

"They are so proactive and deliver so much, their facilities, training and programming is like no other.

"I truly believe they are a national blueprint for inclusion across Wales and the UK and there’s no doubt they thoroughly deserve to be the DSW Insport Club of the Year”.
