WELSH singer-song writer and musician Gwenno is promising her unique brand of “swirling, sea warped psychedelia,” exploring ancient myths and modern themes at a concert in Bangor.
Gwenno Saunders, along with R Seiliog, will be at the Theatr Bryn Terfel, Pontio, on Friday, June 22.
Gwenno’s second solo album, Le Kov (The Place of Memory) has been created with her long-term collaborator and producer Rhys Edwards.
The album includes additional drum engineering by Gorwel Owen of Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, Super Furry Animals and mixing and additional programming by David Wrench.
Gwenno, who was raised entirely in Cornish and Welsh, explores the myths and legends of Cornwall, and the history of the survival of the lesser known Brythonic language.
Her music is described as “swirling with ancient myths and urgent modern themes”.
She evokes the music of her childhood, which includes Brenda Wootton, Alan Stivell, BUCCA along with the The United States of America, White Noise and Serge Gainsbourg.
Le Kov features forlorn piano, crisp drums, and searching synth lines, which, it is said “seem to reach across the horizon”.
The stand-up gig starts at 8pm. It is a 16+ only event.
Tickets are £12 in advance or £14 on the door.
