AN appeal has gone out to find the relatives of those who died in the RMS Leinster disaster.

The vessel was torpedoed by a U-boat en-route from Dun Laoghaire (then Kingstown) to Holyhead, on October 10, in 1918. Some 560 lives were lost, including 27 crew and passengers from Holyhead. Now, the Holyhead Maritime Museum has joined forces with the Holyhead Heritage Group for a programme of commemorative events in October. Four Holyhead Maritime Museum volunteers all lost grandfathers in the tragedy. Norman Williams’ grandfather was engineer’s steward Edward Salisbury Moors, Carys Roberts and Peter Scott Roberts's grandfather was fireman Richard Roberts and Eric Anthony 's grandfather was lamp trimmer Robert Anthony. Lorna Johnson, (not pictured) is another granddaughter of Richard Roberts.

Barry Hillier Holyhead Maritime Museum trustee said: "We are keen to contact the relatives to make them aware of the commemorations.

"It remains the greatest loss of life in the Irish Sea with more Irish citizens lost than on the Titanic."
