FORMER residents of Gwynedd could be rounded up by an official bounty hunter in a bid to revive the county's dwindling communities.
Unfortunately the part-time tracker won't get paid per head for bringing people back alive but will get £25,000 per year for three years from Gwynedd council.

The official will be expected to visit nightclubs and Welsh organisations across the UK
and persuade Gwynedd ex-pats to come home.

Opposition councillors speculated whether the idea to create the new post was an April Fool's joke.

The idea angered Llais Gwynedd the new political party with 13 councillors who believe the position is a waste of money and want the matter raised again at the next full council in December.

Llais Gwynedd councillor for Bont Newydd Chris Hughes was at the meeting but not on the board and said the general feeling was that the new position would put a "financial strain" on the county.

"I think the general consensus is that it wasn't a very popular decision and it needs a reasonable debate," said Mr Hughes.

Although the matter has already been discussed by the council board, Llais Gwynedd want the matter raised again at the next meeting of the full council in December.

Council leader Dyfed Edwards said he was very disappointed that Llais Gwynedd appeared to wish to undermine a scheme to attract young people and families back to Gwynedd.

"We have a choice - to sit back and do nothing or to intervene and encourage people back to Gwynedd where they and their families can settle and contribute to creating a sustainable and vibrant county," said Mr Edwards.

"Many comment on the constant flow of young people out of Gwynedd to cities such as Cardiff and London.

"Most people agree that this is one of the issues facing Gwynedd. This scheme will go some way to address some solutions to that problem," he said.
