The Island's Local Health Board (LHB) have rubberstamped proposals which will see Ysbyty Penrhos Stanley and Ysbyty Cefni rennovated.
Ysbyty Cefni will provide care for Older People with Memory problems and Ysbyty Penrhos Stanley will provide impr
oved care for medical patients. Meanwhile, the £7.3m facility in Holyhead, which replaced Valley Hospital in 1996, will be geared for providing improved care for medical patients, whilst dedicated stroke beds will be developed.
Lynne Joannou, chief executive of the LHB, said: "It is anticipated that the renovation work required to be undertaken at both community hospitals will commence in July of this year, with a completion date in February 2009.
"Once the adaptations to the buildings are complete, the hospitals will provide improved facilities for the residents of Anglesey as promised in our public consultation."
Concerns have been raised about the announcement of a gradual removal of beds for general medical care in Llangefni, although the move has been described by the LHB as an "interim measure."
While the building works take place, work will continue in providing improvements in care at both hospitals.
