AN EMPTY coffin found dumped in a field with a sinister message attached to it is believed to be a student prank.

The coffin is made of plywood with a wooden frame and is in Ashley Field next to Ffordd Menai, Bangor.

A woman walking her dog found the coffin yesterday morning with a note pinned to it saying "jump in, you're next".

Irene Sarteant, who works for Bangor School of Motoring, said she saw the funny side but believes some people might be upset by it.

"I'm out there everyday walking my dog and saw it from a distance and as I got closer I realised it was a coffin," said Mrs Sarteant, who lives in Upper Garth Road.

"It's funny but if somebody had just lost someone had just lost somebody close it would upset them.

"One little boy was crying when he saw it because he was scared," she said.

Other pranks in the area believed to be part of student freshman week include a tree full of knickers and a young driver sticky taped into his car.
